KC Temple!!

I just had to take this opportunity and say how excited I am that the Greater KC Area will be getting our own temple!!! Now the next big thing is where in the KC area will it be!?!? I have some ideas of where it might be and some doubts of where it would not be, but I'd like to know what everyone else thinks.

So for this blog entry I would like to conduct a survey and I've provided a map of the Greater KC area for those of you who don't know the area as well. Let the poll begin.

Hopfully one step closer to a house to call my own.

My Wednesday Knitting Group

I need to confess something, something that has been nagging at me for sometime now. It has to do with work so I apologize if that bores anyone. My manager, Sheri, has expressed distaste for her previous boss who happened to be LDS. I never met him but all I hear is crap, so because of that I've never told anyone at work that I too am LDS. Side story to that is that I taught Sheri how to knit and told her how I go to this knitting group every Wednesday and how it has been theriputic for me because all we do is knit and complain about the world and our problems. This group also happens to be an enrichment group from church and we don't talk about what "normal" LDS women talk about.
So I invited Sheri to this knitting group not thinking about it and then realized that I don't know if I want her to come to this thing. A - we don't talk about wholesome things all the time. In fact hardly ever do we, it's mostly about crappy stuff that has happened in our lives. B- we have some people that are not ashamed and wouldn't care that they were speaking to my boss. (I happen to like Sheri and I don't want things to get weird.) C- It would be weird "hanging out" with my boss. I know this is all lame excuses, but I would have to live with this everyday. I am at work more than I am at home. So I'm praying that if she does come, that she will get past her reservations for "Mormons" and actually come for the opportunity to complain about life and make a pretty scarf too.

Kourtney's Baptism

My beautiful niece, Kourtney, got baptized on the 6th of September!!!! I just wanted to share some pictures and also to say congratulations to her for reaching an important milestone in her life. I'm so thankful I was able to witness it, and what a great blessing she is in my life. Congrats Kourt!!!!

When I saw Koltun sporting his new green shirt I couldn't resist... He is so handsome!!!!

Here's a shot of Kimberly getting her hair done before we left for Kourtney's baptism. If you look closely you can see her new favorite shoes, the black version of Dorothy's shoes from the wizard of oz. She's dang cute!!

And here's Kolin!! He's sooo cute in his little sweater vest!! He's a fun little guy and I can't wait until he grows up so I can get to know him better! Kolin was given his baby blessing the same day Kourtney got baptized. It was really neat to be able to be there.

Again congrats Kourtney and Kolin on your big day!!!

Update on my 2008/2009 Goal

So I again mentioned to my Dad the other day that I need my own space and I'm not really interested in renting. In my opinion if I'm going to spend the money might as well get something out of it like ownership. I am toying with the idea of purchasing a small home, so my Dad got me hooked up with a real estate agent this past week and the agent didn't waste any time on his part, he has sent me a list of homes to check out online. All of this is happening a little too fast for me, but at the same time I'm very excited if it ends up working out. It really just depends if I can get a first time home owner loan with an affordable monthly payment. So really it's in the early stages but it has come out of the "some day" stage to the "ball rolling" stage. I already have my sights on one house in particular so I'll keep you posted to see what happens, but to be realistic, I don't think anything is going to happen anytime soon.

I just wanted to share with you all that I got a raise today!!!! I'm so excited!!! It takes effect September 1!! Yea me!

That is all.

So I finally got my vanity plate a couple of weeks ago and I love it!!! It's a play on words for Yaris and what a pirate says. Also my Yaris has been christened as Morgan, as in Capt Morgan. I'd been trying to come up with a pirate name for my car now for awhile and nothing was working. Black Beard was too long and my car is silver, wouldn't work. I thought Silver Beard but that's just stupid. And that's as far as I got. Then one day I was having a discussion with some of my co-workers about how they think all cars are girls and I said that that's only because boys made it that way and that I'm not a boy so my car must be a boy not a girl. (Stupid reason I know, but I wasn't going to give in) So while still in this discussion they were coming up with names for me and I might add none better than what I had already come up with. And then it comes to me, Capt. Morgan, it's perfect!

  • Morgan can be both a boy and girl name -both parties satisfied - check
  • The name isn't too long - check
  • Its a sweat name - check
  • Its a pirate name - check
So there we have it, my new license plate and newly christened Yaris, Morgan.

I was having a discussion with one of my co-workers the other day about whether it would be better to blind or deaf if you had to choose one. She said deaf because there is sign language and she'd rather see things like movies and pictures. I thought about that and thought that I would rather be blind because there isn't anything worth seeing on TV or in the movies. I would rather listen to music all day than watch a movie or a TV show. I don't think I could be deaf just for the sake of music.

I've pretty much spent my whole day listening to some of my older music that I came across and I've been enjoying the memories that come with them. I did listen to all your suggestions, thanks for those by the way, they were all great!!! I've also found some new music that is not anything that will sweep the nation but it puts you in one of those moods that makes you think the day is going to be a good day. So I have one for you all. It's called "How the Day Sounds" by Greg Laswell, He sounds like Carbonleaf. I'm also in love with Coldplay's Viva la Vida and Vilot Hill.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I am still alive. Sorry no new jokes. I am in the market for some!! Seriously if you have any good jokes, do share.

I broke out the Rock Band drum set the other day and decided I needed to grease up my talent so I didn't get rusty. Yeah, too late. Wow was I rusty. It was tons of fun though. It really is too bad that I didn't play percussion in school I actually might have practiced.

I do have a request of all you diligent readers, I am in need of new music. (Rachel I know about Wilco and Coldplay, I have not forgotten) As important as music is in my life, it has taken a back burner for several months and I think it is high time I bring it back to the front. I haven't listened to the radio in I think about over a year so I am out of the loop when it comes that. I also have not done any research like I usually do to find new groups and/or songs. So here is what I propose, that if you have read this far you have to leave a suggestion for a song. If you have not left a suggestion, I will know, so you better leave one. :) I really am interested to see what I'm missing, and what you all love enough to share.

I just have one more thing to add before I close, "Being dumb is not smart". I want you all to remember that!

A joke

At the request of many of you, I am taking a couple of minutes to update my blog. I wish I had some grand old story to relate or some great joke I heard since last I wrote. Unless you've heard the one about the 2 blonds and the river then I've got nothing. So I will leave the grand month of May with you all, a joke.

There are these 2 blonds, one on each side of the river. One of them says to the other, "Hey, how do I get to the other side of the river?" The other says, "You are on the other side of the river."

Sadly that is all I have. Until next month, farewell.

My biggest purchase yet....

This is the damage my truck took from my accident last month.

And this is the result... a new 2008 Toyota Yaris. It had 94 miles off the lot. It gets 29 mpg city and 34 mpg highway.

This is from the front.

A side shot. Sorry no tripod so it's a little blurry. I'll get a better one during the day.

Here's the dash.

I'm looking for a name for it, anyone got any ideas? :)

And here is the hat I knitted for Kolin.

My Goal for 2008/2009

The other night I felt the strong need to have personal space, a place to call mine and mine alone. So after talking to Rachel, I have decided to safe up and purchase a small house. I talked to my Dad about the finer points and I think it is doable by the end of the year or at the latest sometime next year especially since the market is a buyers market. So with that said, I have started to watch more closely what and how I spend my money. And I'm saving like there is no tomorrow. I was looking at homes on the internet and of boy did that get me really excited about the idea.

And.... done.

Greatest of 2007
GREATEST MEMORY - Nerdfest 2007
GREATEST HEARTACHE - Losing an Aunt and Uncle
GREATEST EPIPHANY - Learning a new shortcut! I love shortcuts!!!
GREATEST YOUTUBE VID - I don't really watch youTube, but I saw this one on my sister's blog and thought it was hilarious.
GREATEST MOVIE - I had to look up what movies came out this past year. This past year really wasn't all that great for movies in my opinion. I wouldn't say it was my favorite but I enjoyed it and could watch it over and over; I would pick Stardust. I bet most of you haven't even heard of that one. If you don't like fantasy or stories with magic, don't bother. But if you do, then watch it, it's good.
GREATEST RECORDS - A bunch, hard to narrow it down. So a little of all of these: 30 Seconds to Mars, The Fray, Paramore, Regina Spektor, unkle Bob, Linkin Park, etc.
GREATEST CONCERT - I've been to one in my entire life and that was only so the other person wouldn't be going alone... I don't do concerts.
GREATEST MOMENT OF IMMATURITY - Farting at inappropriate times and places and then having a good laugh afterward.
GREATEST AREA OF GROWTH - My list of books I've read
GREATEST MOMENT - who can pick just one? I can't that's for sure.

Alright, I give in...

I like the song, dang it. I have secretly been trying not to like Lifehouse. I'm slowly losing the battle every time I put one of their songs up here for you all. Oh well, you can't win them all. :)

Rachel, here you go: Lifehouse - Broken

I was planning on announcing this on my blog sooner and now that I'm getting requests to update... I am here to announce my promotion!!! Yea me!!!

So here's the back story for those don't know. I started working for Datacore Marketing about a year ago as a temp and was later hired on full time after the "trial time" was up. So from February to April I was a temp. They hired me as just a data entry person and about a month later they promoted me to what used to be a program specialists now a team lead, which amounts to just under management. I was a program specialist from end of May/start of June up to about a week ago. On Monday I was promoted to supervisor. For the first time I am not an hourly paid employee, I have good benefits, I got a pay raise, they feed me breakfast every other Friday... I will have to say this about Datacore, they recognize hard workers and they reward them for it. That works for me. I have always believed that it is a privilege to work and should be treated as such, and so I work hard and am very loyal. Needless to say, they like me.

I have now been a supervisor for a full week and am loving every minute of it. I will have to admit that I keep thinking about Truman with his "The Buck Stops Here" sign that was on his desk. I've been trying to think along those lines cause normally I'm happy to pass on the responsiblity to someone else so it has and will continue to be interesting to see how well I do in this position. I can already tell that I've started to "blossom" in my outgoingness. So for those that didn't know, now you do. Oh and today they moved me to my new desk. It's still the same size, I'm just on the end of the isle now instead of mingled and lost. My department is moving this year because my company has outgrown our current office so when we do move I'll get a bigger desk and a new chair to go with that new desk. :) I'm excited. Sorry I didn't post this earlier, I've been busy... and tired.

On a different note, I'm almost finished with my scarf. It's about 60 inches now. It was a rough beginning but now, oh boy, watch out. Anyone got any ideas what I should make next?
